Where To Next?

What if you woke up one day and discovered that nobody but you knew who The Beatles were? Their history and their songs just ceased to exist, leaving you to wonder if you were going crazy or if everybody was in on some elaborate joke? Well, that's what happens to Jack. Except, instead of booking an appointment with a psychiatrist (which I would be doing in his situation), he decides to turn his life as a struggling musician around by releasing all of The Beatles' hits as his own. As people begin to hear Jack's songs and he catapults to stardom, his feelings of guilt begin to surface. It's an interesting moral dilemma. While Jack is lying about writing all of the songs himself, no one would ever find out the truth, and even if they did they wouldn't believe him. The Wombats released their new album this week, and I. Am. Obsessed. They have been teasing the new album since November, gradually releasing new songs, starting with Lemon to a Knife Fight. I was actually really disappointed when they released that song, because I thought they were going to release the whole album that day. Great song though, and as I discovered this week, the rest of the album is just as good. It's one of those albums that you can listen to the whole way through, on repeat, all day long. There aren't any songs that I find myself skipping, they are all consistently listenable. It's a short album, with only 37 minutes playing time, but quality over quantity definitely applies. It is what we have come to expect of The Wombats, with the usual witty lyrics, mixed with a great sound, whether it's the softer sounds of I Don't Know Why I Like You But I Do, or the more upbeat Lemon To a Knife Fight. Ah, Eurovision. Our annual dose of all the music, glamour, and oddities that Europe has to offer. And Australia, because, much to the confusion of Europe, we managed to get ourselves invited. This year there were some really great songs and performers, but let's be honest, the best part of Eurovision is seeing which country has the most bizarre performance. So, here they are, in no particular order. Let's start with my favourite, Moldova. I think what makes this hilarious is actually the dancing, but the song is actually catchy and it's just really fun! Now on to my second favourite, Romania. There's rapping, there's yodelling. Sounds crazy, but it must be just crazy enough to work because it's actually pretty good. Now we need to talk about Italy. There's wild gesticulating (well, yeah...Italy), there's the Italian Wiggles singing backup, and then there's a gorilla. I don't know what's going on here. Who choreographed ...

Here it is. Your parent's worst nightmare. This is beyond what old people in the fifties worried about when Elvis first came on the scene. They wouldn't have even been able to envision the level of sin and depravity that is depicted in this book. It's dirty, it's disgusting, it's dangerous. It's the very epitome of rock and roll. Think of any possible thing that comes to your mind when you think of the typical rock and roll band, and you will find it in this book. Sex, drugs, music, fights, destruction, tattoos, tours, dysfunctional relationships, rehab, accidents and so very much alcohol. The story was set out well, with each chapter alternating between band members, so that we get each member's individual story as well as different points of view on the same incident. Vinyl is one of those shows that you binge watch in a couple of days and then wish you would've taken your time because the next season isn't out yet and it will be forever until you can get your next fix. I haven't actually heard much about it, I can't even remember how I came across it, but I think once more people start discovering it, it will become a much-talked about, must-see series. With all the drugs and murder it's not surprising when you find out that Mick Jagger and Martin Scorsese are the creators (along with Rich Cohen and Terence Winter). The quality you would expect from these big names, as well as the incredible cast, is there as well. There is a lot going on in the show, but somehow it blends seamlessly together to create cohesive storylines and keep the audience's interest. The show's main focus is on Ritchie Finestra.
